Description:

The Senior Research Specialist develops implements and evaluates health research and service to promote the health and well-being of MSHC patient populations. The Senior Research Specialist promotes innovation that results from MSHC's diverse programs and services. In addition, the Senior Research Specialist manages the Center's grant development, budget, program, staffing, compliance, reporting, and public relations activities and harmonize priorities between and among research and service across the agency's many focus areas.

Duties:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence in research and evaluation, consistent quality of administration and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals
  • In conjunction with agency leadership, the community board, the QI division and the research division, develop annual research priorities.
  • Monitor National Institute of Health (NIH or equivalent) research funding opportunities, among other scientific funding sources, and play a leadership role in positioning MSHC for successful application, award, and implementation of funded scientific activities aligned with MSHC priorities.
  • Working with the agency's develop and grants management teams, identify opportunities for external funding to support research and service priorities and submit grants in priority areas.
  • Responsible for the overall budget for this section and oversee project budgets embedded within the section when the agency is the primary awardee, subcontractor or subcontracted entity to ensure fiscal integrity and compliance with sponsor regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze local, regional and national policies with relevance to FQHC/underserved health and lead agency efforts to develop and implement strategies to advance research and service priorities and goals.
  • Manage the agency's research portfolio, identify and review opportunities to advance the agency's research priorities, and participate in research initiatives as an investigator, where applicable.
  • Participate actively in leadership positions within local and national coalitions and professional groups to advance research and evaluation with underserved and community health.
  • Work in collaboration with the community outreach and engagement team to develop and manage a community-engaged plan to inform internal and external stakeholders about agency and collaborative initiatives research and service areas relevant to community priorities.

  • Actively disseminate findings from research and evaluation initiatives via public presentations, conference proceedings and peer-reviewed or other publications.

  • Lead, coach, develop, retain and supervise the research core in areas of research and evaluation.
  • Develop relationships with other academic partners across the institution to foster research partnerships relevant to the priority areas of our patient population.
  • Participate and help lead the community needs assessment and evaluation with internal and external partners
  • Build strong working relationships and communications with internal and external PIs. Network to identify and recruit new internal and external collaborators.
  • Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in science or related field required. Master's degree in science preferred.

    A minimum of 5 years related research experience.

    Possess and applies advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.

    Proficient in specific lab research techniques.

    Prior supervisory and management experience, including experience with fundraising, grant writing, budget and programmatic management

    Prior experience conducting research or evaluation in a lead or supporting role.

    Track record of securing external funding for research initiatives.

    Track record of authorship in research, education and/or policy areas including policy papers, white papers, or peer-reviewed publications preferred.

    Experience shepherding one or more NIH scientific funding awards from application to successful implementation.

    Record of accomplishment supporting research compliance activities in accordance with government regulations and scientific best practices.

    Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skill, versed in many different types of communications and audiences, is essential.
