    The Opportunity

The Senior Research Fellow (Bioinformatician) will make independent or original contributions to the research effort within their field of expertise and to the organisational unit or inter-disciplinary area of which they are a part. The Senior Research Fellow will provide expert advice to researchers at the Central Clinical School, will exercise some degree of leadership in research, and will coordinate the growing bioinformatics community at that site. The Senior Research Fellow would be expected to spend most of their time at the Central Clinical School based at the Alfred Hospital, however, will also work with the Monash Bioinformatics Platform alongside a team of expert bioinformaticians at Clayton on a regular basis. The Monash Bioinformatics Platform is a team that provides a hub for research collaborations in bioinformatics, and training as well as facilitating broader collaborations across Monash University's research groups.

The Senior Research Fellow will conduct research and produce papers and publications. The role will also supervise administrative staff and coordinate a Masters/PhD level unit on Bioinformatics in one semester. Where appropriate, the Senior Research Fellow may lead research teams or manage projects and will be responsible for preparing research proposal submissions to external funding bodies.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline such as such as biology, computer science, physics, statistics or bioinformatics or equivalent accreditation and standing together with subsequent research experience. Experience in bioinformatics analysis, in particular, in cancer genomics, transcriptomics and knowledge of R, is required for success in this role. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, high-level organisational skills and experience supervising and mentoring research staff.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
