Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This position will be responsible for performing molecular dynamics simulations of glycosylated influenza hemagluttinin (HA) and develop workflows for the correlation of changes in HA glycosylation with experimentally observed changes in binding to an antibody panel. The position will involve close collaboration with the labs outside of UGA and a particular focus will be to develop and use 3D molecular modeling techniques to select of HA glycoforms for improved vaccine responses. The position is accountable for research quality, management of research materials, documentation of research data, development of project reports, presenting findings to research partners and sponsors, and drafting of manuscripts, research reports, and funding proposals. The position involves supervistion of graduate students and review of the work produced by students and other personal. Train incoming employees and graduate students from both the CCRC and exterally.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience with performing molecular dynamics simulations with appropriate background knowledge.
  • Familiarity with glycobiology, virology, structural biology and in particular influenza viruses.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems and task automation with scripting using bash or python.
  • The ability to write computer programs is an advantage.

    Develop tools and workflows for selection of HA glycoforms that induce better vaccine responses. Responsible for performing molecular dynamics simulations of glycosylated influenza hemagluttinin (HA) and develop workflows for the correlation of changes in HA glycosylation with experimentally observed changes in binding to an antibody panel.

    Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities

    Perform modeling services for GlycoMIP clients and users. Develop and use 3D molecular modeling techniques to select of HA glycoforms for improved vaccine responses.

    Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities

    Train incoming employees and graduate students from CCRC, other

    colleges/departments of UGA and other universities on glycomimetic/glycomaterial design protocols, data analysis, and use of various workflows/software. Supervise students and technicians to perform duties.
