Job Description Summary:

A Senior Research Assistant position is available in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine for a highly motivated individual to study the role of tumor microenvironment in cancer. The research mission of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine is to conduct basic and translational research at the highest scientific level. Our faculty members are dedicated to searching for path-breaking scientific discoveries in the areas of cellular and molecular biochemistry through our signature research programs in cancer, metabolism, inflammation, and disease centered computational genomics.

The Senior Research Assistant contributes to research/development by assisting with experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. The core responsibilities of this position include assisting with data collection and administration of experimental procedures, making detail observations, and assisting senior level researchers analyze data and interpret results. This role will compile routine results, contribute to technical reports and documentation of outcomes, and assists with the preparation of results for publication. The Senior Research Assistant has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field of tumor microenvironment in cancer, and performs activities similar to those of a Research Assistant but is more experienced and independent. Responsibilities Include

• Assists with preparing laboratory reagents, growing and maintaining cell lines, and prepares DNA, RNA extractions.

• Performs lab maintenance duties. • Studies the roles of various genes in cancer development and progression using cancer-related animal models. • Assists the PI and senior research staff in the laboratory management and organization. • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in basic cell and molecular biology methods, preferably in cell culture techniques and assays. Animal handling experience. Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within cancer research.

Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
