The HSC Next team at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is focused on catalyzing innovation and making Fort Worth a better place to be an innovator. Through various programs and initiatives, the HSC Next supports inventors, entrepreneurs, startups and students from the HSC campus and from our community. We collaborate across campus and across DFW to fill the regional innovation pipeline and build a stronger innovation ecosystem.

Position Overview

The Senior Program Manager will carry out programming and tasks related to building an innovation workforce using HSC resources, along with potential state and federal resources to spur the local innovation ecosystem. This position will also seek new and experiential learning opportunities for HSC staff, students and faculty, as well as for people in the community who are interested in learning more about innovation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand general business principles.
  • Ability to be a strong, clear communicator by oral and written means.
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of professional colleagues from tenured researchers to students to entrepreneurs.
  • Ability to be highly organized and have the ability to work towards deadlines.
  • Ability to be develop new procedures and present to others about those processes.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with studies in business, entrepreneurship or innovation highly desired
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Fort Worth entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem is preferred
  • Preferred experience in higher education institution and/or workforce training organization or project(s)
  • Project management experience and skills (including budgeting)
  • Grant writing and reporting skills
  • Experience in working with local workforce boards, the US Department of Labor or related workforce training organizations
  • A general knowledge of intellectual property, entrepreneurship and technology commercialization
  • Required License / Registration / Certification Work Schedule

    Job Duties

    o

    Conceive and execute experiential learning opportunities to train the innovation workforce of the future. This may include working with outside groups to bring new programs to our area that teach a more entrepreneurial mindset, matched with existing HSC resources. These may include Startup Weekends, Gener8tor accelerator programs, the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative's Icehouse program and similar innovation and entrepreneurship training programs.

    o

    Work with HSC's schools to identify the programs that are most likely to be a good fit for these workforce development programs.

    o

    Identify, seek and pursue internship and apprenticeship opportunities for our students, across all of our schools, with local innovation-led startup companies.

    o

    Develop microcredentials and/or certifications for innovation training programs in the HSC curriculum.

    o

    Identify, seek and pursue innovation workforce building funds from workforce development/upskilling/job training funders.

    o

    Act as resident expert on all topics related to innovation and workforce development, including educating internal (HSC) and external stakeholders.

    o

    Other duties as assigned.
