As the chief communications organization for the University of North Texas, the Division of University Brand Strategy and Communications (UBSC) collaborates with internal and external partners to:

  • Advance and protect UNT's institutional identity and reputation.
  • Reinforce and grow UNT's brand in graphics, images and words.
  • Increase UNT's visibility in public and in the higher education marketplace.
  • Support UNT's student recruitment, retention and graduation goals.
  • Strengthen UNT's relevance and value to key audiences, including alumni, donors, faculty and staff members, and encourage community engagement.
  • Position Overview

    This position is responsible for conceptualizing visual ways to illustrate ideas and subjects and to photograph and edit photography. The position also requires having experience in capturing video and audio and working creatively in post-production to create increased brand recognition for the institution. This individual in this role uses their creative eye and technical skills to identify and capture commercial style images that help tell the story of UNT.

    Work includes creating high-quality photography content consistent with the university's mission and strategic goals using a combination of sophisticated techniques and professional experience; operating professional digital cameras and lighting equipment on location as well as in the studio and have a high level of photo editing experience; exercising independent creative judgment and technical expertise in photographing and editing for a variety of creative projects; and collaborating with UBSC leadership and other staff in a work team environment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of work in commercial photography OR high level video production and post-production, including working knowledge of Visual Effects, audio engineering and film directing.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Advanced technical and creative knowledge in DSLR pro-camera operation or advanced technical and creative knowledge in pro, multi-camera operation and motion controllers. • Advanced technical knowledge in photo editing, or video and audio capture and post production editing. • Advanced technical and creative knowledge in environmental and studio lighting techniques. • Advanced comprehension of a complex Digital Asset Management System • Ability to work with agility and effectiveness within complex projects and under tight deadlines. • Good working knowledge of visual effects and color grading. • Must be a creative and technical problem solver. • Advanced skills in industry standard software preferably in Photoshop, Adobe Premier and/or Final Cut software.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in either photography, journalism, or related field.
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in either a marketing, advertising, or editorial photography field.
  • Excellent knowledge of studio and location lighting. As well as knowing how to use on camera flash.
  • Familiarity with video production process, camera operation, capturing of audio for video, post-production editing.
  • Excellent knowledge in using Adobe Creative Cloud programs like Photoshop, Bridge, Premiere, etc. to edit photography or video.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with some project management experience.
  • Experience working cross-functionally within a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and make contact with both internal and external constituents and diverse populations.
  • Ability to research and adapt visual trends to use in photography and video.
  • Advanced proficiency level with Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and Camera Raw with some proficiency with the use of Adobe Premiere.
  • Experience covering live events.
  • Understanding of technical requirements for delivery of assets on various distribution channels.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Must be flexible, innovative and self-motivated.
  • Commitment to understanding and demonstrating the value of higher education and professional development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict.
