Job description

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy with proven expertise as a practising counsellor as well as experience of leading academic programmes in order to provide academic leadership to the delivery and ongoing development of the Counselling and Psychotherapy programmes at Keele University. The appointee will have extensive experience of developing high quality curricula and will make a significant contribution to the School's strategic ambitions. They will take a key role in developing the subject area of Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as new opportunities for multi professional collaborations across research and education. The post-holder will provide leadership in the development of our Counselling and Psychotherapy educational programmes and the development of a Counselling and Psychotherapy academic team, including the School's professional Doctorate and developing CPD activities. They will also make a significant contribution to leadership within the School of Medicine.

Faculty of Medicine and Health Science

The School of Medicine is one of four Schools in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences. The Faculty has a long tradition of providing professional programmes leading to registration with regulatory bodies whilst providing academic development to doctoral level. Counselling and Psychotherapy at Keele

This post represents a unique opportunity to develop the programmes of Counselling and Psychotherapy at Keele, building upon our track record of delivering high quality health and social care programmes that are nationally recognised. Keele has an unbroken record of providing counselling training since 1964, when it was one of the first universities in the UK to provide courses for school counsellors, and it enjoys an international reputation. Staff who have trained at Keele are widespread in voluntary and statutory services as well as in the independent sector. At Keele, we provide the following Counselling courses:

  • Graduate Certificate in Counselling
  • MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy (studied on either a full- or part-time basis)
  • accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

    The courses are founded on a person-centred view of personhood and person- centred ways of being and the core training offered by the programmes is in the person-centred approach. Our starting point for the Keele Counselling Model is a unifying ethos which enables us to respect and welcome a diversity of professional skills and orientations. Additionally, the centrality of a secure and constantly reviewed ethical position, based on the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, is presented.
