The University of Bedfordshire is continuing the development of academic
programmes in the School of Life Sciences at its University Square Campus in
Luton aligned to the recent development of a new £40 million STEM building. We
are looking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Microbiology to actively
contribute to the development and delivery of courses in the microbiology,
biotechnology and allied health areas as part of the School's academic
programmes. The School currently boasts a team of dynamic research active
staff with expertise in the areas of biomedical, biological and environmental
sciences. School of Life Sciences staff members are also affiliated to our
research institute iBEST, Institute of Biomedical and Environmental Science
and Technology (https: // www. beds.ac.uk/research-ref/ibest/ibest).
Successful candidate will hold a PhD in the relevant subject area and an
appropriate level of UK-HE teaching, curriculum development and research
experience as detailed in the job description and the person specification.
The post-holder will develop, deliver and coordinate units within our suite of
undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the subject area, and act as course
co-ordinator including course enhancement work. In addition, staff will be
expected to contribute to academic development work (e.g. development of new
units and courses) including research and enterprise. This includes the
supervision of BSc/MSc project students and postgraduate research students.
The post-holder will have a broad breadth of academic expertise in
microbiology and biotechnology areas mainly allied to health. This includes
medical microbiology; microbes in health and disease; molecular and diagnostic
microbiology; applied microbiology; molecular biology, genomics and genetic
engineering, innovations in biosciences and biotechnology and biomaterials and
allied areas such as environmental hygiene and health. Broader experience and
interests aligned to UN-SDGs in the context of health, food and the
environment and allied socioeconomic impact is particularly desirable.
