The School of Human and Social Sciences is pleased to invite applications for a Senior Lecturer in Counselling & Mental Health from individuals who are passionate about delivering student-focused education.

Our psychology portfolio includes a range of full time British Psychological Society accredited undergraduate degrees including Psychology, Criminological Psychology, and Sports Psychology. Our postgraduate suite includes an MSc Applied Positive Psychology; MSc Mental Health and Wellbeing in Education; PG Dip/MSc Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; and MSc Applied Forensic Psychology.

Counselling and Mental Health at Buckinghamshire New University

We have a number of highly successful programmes in this area that have been delivered for several years and attracts trainees from those working in a variety of education and allied health contexts such as mental health nursing, counselling, and psychology. This specifically refers to the professional courses in CBT and Forensic Psychology. Additionally, we have a successful, BPS Accredited undergraduate course in Counselling Psychology. We are looking to grow our Counselling and Mental Health portfolio with developments in the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (and related MHWP and CAP) arena.

In addition to lecturing and research across specialist areas, the post holder will work across the UG and PG portfolios helping support curriculum and portfolio development in counselling and mental health (and therapeutic approaches within Psychology)

Applicants for this post must be accredited by BACBP or BACP and hold BPS Chartered status.

    Job Title: Senior Lecturer in Counselling & Mental Health

    Job Purpose:

  • To teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach, delivering a first-class student experience.
  • To lead and undertake curriculum development, professional practice, enterprise activity, research and other forms of scholarly activity as outlined within the BNU Academic Framework
  • To be a team-player and contribute to the wider work of the School and wider University.
  • Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

    Education:

  • To undertake research-informed teaching in the subject discipline managing all aspects of curriculum delivery and the associated student experience to the highest standards in accordance with the University's requirements and the TEF.
  • To undertake associated activities in connection with the courses taught including: module and course leadership; curriculum development; personal tutoring student recruitment; assessment, review and evaluation.
  • To achieve good student satisfaction – demonstrating ‘customer focus' and achieving strong NSS results.
  • Demonstrate inclusive practice in curriculum design and delivery. Work to eliminate attainment gaps.
  • To contribute to Open Days, school, college and partnership links and the marketing and promotional work of the Department and School.
  • To support students in supervising placements, learning in practice, internships and work-related activities.
  • To deliver pastoral care to, and project supervision of, students.
  • To plan and deliver the curriculum using appropriate digital technologies, including the use of IT and multimedia.
  • To provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of your practice; use data and student feedback to identify opportunities to enhance the quality of your teaching and the outcomes for learners. Proactively work with colleagues in the School and across the University to share good practice, seek opportunities to enhance practice, and thereby demonstrably enhance the student experience and outcomes
  • To undertake and promote cross disciplinary teaching to contribute to the success of the wider University.
  • To engage in professional development activities (e.g. CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to teaching, learning and assessment.

  • To conduct research and scholarly activity of relevance to the senior lecturing role and/or area of professional practice and align own research with teaching and learning.
