The Department / School / College

School of Human and Social Sciences offers a full range of awards from foundation degrees to undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees. Our courses and areas of expertise include Criminology and Policing, Psychology , Education, Addiction Studies , Forensic Science , Nutritional Therapy, Politics and International Relations. Our courses are accredited by professional bodies in the sciences, for example, The British Psychological Society and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Forensic Science is accredited by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, Addiction studies by the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals and the Nutritional studies course by Nutritional Therapy Education Commission (NTEC).

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching, learning and assessment in the area of Forensic Science. There will be an expectation to lead on themes of forensic chemistry. Additionally, the postholder will support teaching within other aspects of forensic science and statistics within the undergraduate courses. This role will also incorporate course development and management responsibilities. Additionally, the role will include research, scholarship and knowledge exchange.

The Person

The successful candidate will have significant operational experience from working in a chemistry and/or forensic science laboratory. You will possess a good understanding of the Forensic Science sector and have experience working with analytical instruments. You will have knowledge of drugs, toxicology and (in)organic chemistry. In parallel, you have undertaken research in a forensic science area and have, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant area.

Previous experience of research, consultancy and/or knowledge exchange activities is essential. You will also have experience in teaching and learning at undergraduate level. Experience of curriculum design and development is desirable.

Team working and commitment to excellent student experience are critical components to this role.
