We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Lecturer (1.0 FTE, full time) in Computing and Artificial Intelligence to work within the School of Creative and Digital Industries. This role would suit an enthusiastic and suitably experienced candidate, keen to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality education to learners across a portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Teaching is currently largely face- to-face but we are looking to grow some online provision.

For this role, you will be expected to have primary expertise in artificial intelligence, which may include intelligent and automated systems, machine learning or some other pertinent theoretical or practical application areas. You will also have ancillary interests and experience in one or more related disciplines, such as computing, software engineering, data science or security.

Candidates will normally hold a first degree and a postgraduate degree in related discipline areas, with some appropriate experience as an educator. A PhD qualification or a willingness to work towards this qualification is also desirable. Significant and relevant industry experience will be taken into consideration.

This is a Senior Lecturer appointment and, as such, candidates will also be expected to take on other team leadership responsibilities in areas, such as, curriculum development, course leadership, engagement with partner organisations, and, recruitment activity.

    Job Purpose:

    The post-holder will be required to contribute to the following:

  • Contributing to strategic priorities for the School as directed by the DHoS/ HoS and in line with the University's plan.
  • Showing leadership in the development of a sustainable computing and artificial intelligence curriculum.
  • Making a contribution to the teaching and learning activities within the School.
  • Leadership in research and/or professional practice in a subject-related field.
  • Contributing towards year on year performance improvements to NSS, Graduate Outcomes and HESA returns for the relevant courses in the School.
  • Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • To contribute to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate offerings with a focus on employment opportunities in the areas of artificial intelligence and computer science.
  • To contribute to year on year improvements to key performance metrics for the academic programmes in this area (NSS, Graduate Outcomes and HESA).
  • To support the Head of School in delivery of the School's annual academic plan, budgetary plan, and workload planning requirements.
  • To undertake own research and scholarly activity, in accordance with the University's Research and Enterprise Strategy and demonstrate national recognition in at least one area of the following: applied research, enterprise or professional practice.
  • To collaborate with others across the institution to enable sharing of best practice, and to contribute to the work of School and University Committees as necessary.
