Position Information

Provides immigration advising and support services to promote the success, wellness, and academic goals of international students, dependents, and graduated students pursing Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Academic Training. Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), independently providing expert immigration and regulatory advising to international students. Can serve as lead Career Empowerment Coordinator or as lead Coordinator for SEVIS registration. Actively advises faculty and staff across campus by providing in-depth guidance on matters relevant to international students. In collaboration with the ISS team, designs and delivers professional intercultural and support programs that facilitate the educational, professional, and personal success of international students at UCR. Contributes to outreach and campus training that provides faculty, staff, and students with the resources and skills needed to effectively contribute to an increasingly international campus. We will be filling 2 positions from this recruitment.

Budgeted hiring range is $52,100.00 - $63,384.00

Completion of National Association of International Student Advisors (NAFSA) F-1 and J-1 foundation workshops. Preferred Must successfully complete a background check through the University's background check agency prior to your start date, and a fingerprint check through the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations. Required

Experience Experience Requirement

4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Experience in intercultural communications and cross-cultural relations, particularly related to advising students and interacting with faculty and staff. Required Experience as a Designated School Official and/or Alternate Responsible Officer. Required Experience working with international students and demonstrated knowledge of their adjustment and support needs. Required Experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating support programs, intercultural training, and/or Orientation programs for international students. Required Experience using International Student and Scholar Management (ISSM) or other similar databases. Preferred Experience living, working, and/or studying abroad. Preferred

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident as required by federal regulations in order to serve as a Designated School Official (DS) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). Minimum Requirements

Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Knowledge of complex U.S. visa and immigration procedures, compliance issues, and employment eligibility/authorization for international students and scholars. Demonstrated experience and skills working with technology and computer information systems Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Strong computer and database management skills. Solid verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of SEVIS reporting requirements, as well as federal immigration laws and regulations pertaining to international students in F and J status. Demonstrated ability to research, comprehend, analyze, and apply immigration regulations. Interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
