JOB SUMMARY

The Office of Audit and Management Advisory Services (AMAS) seeks qualified applicants for two open auditor roles, with a preference to hire as Senior Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 2) but option to hire as Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 1), depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant. Both audit roles will support AMAS audit activities on all UConn and UConn Health campuses, one role with a primary work location on the Storrs campus and one role with a primary work location on the Farmington campus. Both roles will involve occasional, in- person work with flexibility for telecommuting on a hybrid basis subject to authorization and University policy.

Senior Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 2):

Under the general direction of the Audit Director, conducts audits independently at all levels of the institution to evaluate financial, administrative, and functional operations in order to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, University policies and procedures, and sound business practices; identifies process improvements; makes formal recommendations based on findings; and provides follow up monitoring of the status of managements' corrective actions. This position has access to a variety of confidential information, including that used in collective bargaining.

Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 1):

Under the general direction of the Audit Director or the Senior Internal Auditor, conducts audits to evaluate financial, administrative, and functional operations in order to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, University policies and procedures, and sound business practices; identifies process improvements; makes formal recommendations based on findings and provides follow up monitoring of the status of managements' corrective actions. This position has access to a variety of confidential information, including that used in collective bargaining.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 2):

  • Establishes an audit and/or project plan for each assignment in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.
  • Conducts audits and other critical reviews to assess the effectiveness of business practices; compliance with pertinent governmental regulations and University policies and procedures; protection of University assets; and the achievement of both tangible and intangible objectives in relation to the following:
  • Financial record reports, and related fiscal matters
  • Operations, policies, and procedures
  • Performance standards
  • Conducts management analyses, feasibility studies, etc. as requested.
  • Evaluates existing and proposed systems and procedures to determine efficiency, effectiveness, risk, and compliance with sound accounting and management principles.
  • Analyzes and evaluates results of audits, reports findings, and makes formal recommendations for a range of corrective actions.
  • Effectively communicates observations and recommendations through clearly written reports and correspondence.
  • Reviews findings and formal recommendations with appropriate supervisory staff and administrative officials of areas audited and assists, as appropriate, in implementing corrective action.
  • Follows up on audit recommendations to assess the implementation of recommended changes.
  • Analyzes large and complex volumes of data to identify anomalies and generate audit samples for staff.
  • Performs the most complex audit assignments identified in the Annual Audit Plan.
  • Contributes to the development of the Annual Audit Plan.
  • Supervisors Internal Auditor(s) as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 1):

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Senior Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 2):

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, theories and principles of financial, operational, and performance auditing.
  • Five (5) years of experience in professional auditing.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or equivalent designation required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated report writing ability.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with basic data analytical tools such as Excel.
  • Ability to analyze data, systems, and procedures for opportunities involving quality or process improvements and education.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret standard and non-standard contracts, technical procedures, financial reports, governmental regulations, and guidelines. Develop clear conclusions and summarize findings.
  • Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 1):

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in professional auditing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Senior Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 2):

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of research related compliance.
  • Two years of experience in higher education and/or healthcare.
  • Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 1):

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of research related compliance.
  • Experience in higher education and/or healthcare.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or equivalent designation.
  • APPOINTMENT TERMS

    These are full-time, permanent positions. The hiring range for the Senior Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 2) is $95,000 - $105,000 based on the successful candidate's background and experience. The hiring range for the Internal Auditor (University Staff Professional 1) is $75,000 - $85,000 based on the successful candidate's background and experience.

    Both audit roles will support AMAS audit activities on all UConn and UConn Health campuses, one role with a primary work location on the Storrs campus and one role with a primary work location on the Farmington campus.
