Job Summary

RGU and the Net Zero Technology Centre have partnered to create the National Subsea Centre (NSC), a multi-million-pound Centre of Excellence for Subsea Research and Technology development. The NSC harnesses the University's academic expertise, research capability and facilities in a world-class research and development centre focused on tackling the challenges faced by all marine industries in the transition to net zero.

We are seeking a knowledgeable and team focused financial professional, who will provide general accounting and administrative support to the management team of the NSC. In addition to this, you will support the Commercial Project Accountant for all NSC financial activities.

You will be educated to HNC/degree level in an accountancy-based subject and/or with the relevant accounting experience. It would be useful but not essential to be part qualified with one of the major accountancy bodies. You will have experience of working in the financial or management accounts sections of a busy finance department, as well as knowledge of project costing and accounting. It is essential that you have working knowledge of the use of Excel and Windows based financial software. Previous experience within a Higher Education or a public sector environment would be advantageous.

You will be predominately based at the National Subsea Centre at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. Travel will be required from time to time between RGU sites.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: NSC Centre Manager/Commercial Projects Accountant

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility

PURPOSE OF THE POST: To provide general accounting and administrative support to the management team of the NSC. In addition to this, you will support the Commercial Project Accountant for all NSC activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Calculation of annual accruals and prepayments submissions.

Calculation of annual deferred and accrued income submissions.

Assist in the preparation of the quarterly drawdown pack providing various backup schedules asrequired.

Monitor CEDAR and analyse monthly expenditure against budgets and prepare appropriate transfer where needed, ensuring all expenses paid by credit card, staff expenses etc. are correctly coded.

Monthly reconciliation of department credit card ensuring any VAT receipts are obtained.

Validate all purchase invoices received ensuring agreement to PO or signoff by NSC management and prepare sales invoice paperwork as needed.

Review all new project information packs for submission to finance to ensure salaries are coded correctly and update department time management system.

Maintain and progress ongoing detailed revenue analysis regularly updating from various systems for new proposals etc. by reviewing costs and changing status as needed.

Provide ongoing commentaries on revenue analysis for quarterly reporting Assist in preparation of various NSC forecasting submissions providing backup schedules as required.

Prepare initial commentary on quarterly financial reviews for discussion with NSC management team.

Prepare for submission to NZTC various monthly/quarterly reporting returns for all existing and future projects financed by them.

Set up department reporting requirements for all new projects.

Liaise with RGU schools/departments to ensure the effective administration of all project related activity.

Manage the department asset log and liaise with finance to ensure the university asset register is updated for all changes.

Collate information for the preparation of the department budget for submission to RGU and NZTC.

Other Duties:

Deal with any financial enquiries from schools and departments.

Oversee time tracking system ensuring timely completion by research staff etc. Undertake any other relevant duties which are consistent with the job purpose

Support department with use of Cedar system

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

HNC/D or Degree in an Accounting-based subject and/or the relevant accounting experience

Knowledge

Must be competent in and have working knowledge of the use of spreadsheets (Excel) and windows based financial software

Knowledge of project costing and accounting

Experience

Relevant experience working in the financial or management accounts sections of a busy finance department

Confident professional approach, respecting the confidential nature of data

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

Part-qualified with one of the major accounting bodies or QBE

Knowledge

Use of Cedar would be an advantage
