We are seeking to appoint a Senior Data Manager, to join the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, where we are actively building a collaborative data platform that will support cutting edge analyses of complex and broad datasets to accelerate understanding of new human biology and possible routes to therapy.
As Senior Data Manager, you will work closely with the Data Platform team and senior researchers to be responsible for the flow of sample information, multi-modal datasets and their metadata within the Data Platform, acting as the point of contact for all matters related to data management. You will be responsible for developing and using novel methodologies for storing the information and datasets along with their metadata in an unambiguous manner which supports hypothesis generation. You will ensure that datasets are appropriately annotated and made available in a manner which is FAIR compliant (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) wherever possible, and you will work with data owners to ensure that data sets are made available in a timely and self-documenting fashion.
To be successful in this role you will have excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a proven ability to solve problems and think critically about scientific processes so as to generate robust, reproducible approaches is essential for this role, along with significant proficiency in coding in either Python or R and other scripting languages. It is essential that you hold a Masters (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Biochemistry or other related computational subject, and you will have significant experience in managing large and diverse data types in a biomedical space. As part of the role, you will be required to have experience of working with relational databases, including the development of bespoke schemas, and writing effective SQL. It is important that you are able to deliver high-calibre approaches, as evidenced through a strong publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and showcase a high degree of ambition and self-motivation.
