Senior Computational Structural Biologist

Centre for Medicines Discovery, NDM Research Building, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7FZ

We are looking for an experienced computational structural biologist with an interest in exploring the effects of protein coding mutations associated with human inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) using contemporary deep learning approaches. This work is part of Recon4IMD (www. recon4imd.org/), an EU- funded consortium of biochemists, systems biologists, clinical researchers and patient organisations who seek to accelerate the diagnosis of IMDs by personalised genomic, proteomic and metabolomic data-driven computer models.

You will be joining the Professor Brian Marsden's Research Informatics Team at the Centre for Medicines Discovery (CMD) and will work in close collaboration with Professor Wyatt Yue's structural biology team at Newcastle University Biosciences Institute.

You will be responsible for developing methodologies and pipelines for the exploration of the structural and functional effects of protein-coding variants in human proteins, particularly those associated with Inherited Metabolic Diseases (IMDs). You will be providing regular updates to the Recon4IMD consortium on progress and plans and working with other relevant work packages within Recon4IMD to support their work.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Structural Biology, or a related field and have proven experience in developing and implementing machine/deep learning algorithms and models for biological applications. You will have significant experience in computational structural biology along with very strong coding skills in python. Experience of taking cutting-edge deep learning approaches and applying them in new ways will be important. An interest in human metabolic biology is desirable but not essential.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract 31 May 2027 and is funded by the UKRI Horizon guarantee.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Tuesday 21 November 2023 will be considered. Please quote 168727 on all correspondence.
