Scientist (f/m/d) Functionalization, radiolabeling and characterization of

complex protein assemblies

As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

At the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research scientists from the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, pharmacy, immunology, medicine and IT develop innovative radiopharmaceuticals and novel tools for functional characterization, improved imaging and personalized treatment of tumors.

As part of the Institute, the Department of Radionuclide Theragnostics invites applications as Scientist (f/m/d) Functionalization, radiolabeling and characterization of complex protein assemblies.

The position will be available from 1 January 2022. The employment contract is limited to two years.

Tasks:
  • Working on an interdisciplinary European project as part of an established radiopharmaceutical research team

  • Modification and characterisation of protein complexes and nanoparticle- protein conjugates

  • Conception, implementation, evaluation, interpretation and optimisation of protocols for radiolabelling of macromolecules and protein complexes

  • Investigation and evaluation of the stability and functionality of radiolabelled molecules by cell binding and interaction studies

  • Detection and quality control of radioconjugates by Radio High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Radio Thin Layer Chromatography and Size Exclusion Chromatography

  • Analysis of experimental data and communication of results in work reports, at international conferences and through publications in scientific journals

  • Requirements:
  • Good scientific university degree in a natural science subject, preferably in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Pharmacy
  • Practical experience in (Radio-)Biology, (Radio-)Pharmaceutical Sciences as well as bioconjugation, protein modification and protein purification
  • Practical experience in handling open radioactive substances and extensive cell culture practice
  • Expertise in the functionalization and radiolabeling of biomolecules as well as experience in evaluating protein-cell interactions are desirable
  • Creative thinking and result-oriented work as well as a high degree of initiative and organisational skills
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
