The laboratory of Agrozoology at the Department of Plants and Crops (Ghent University) is looking for a researcher to work in an European Union (EU)-funded project on the use of dsRNA in insect pest control. The candidate will select potential targets for RNAi-mediated control of sap sucking pest insects, through a screening of different dsRNAs. In addition, the candidate will optimize the dsRNA delivery by testing different treatment strategies and formulations. Initially the experiments will be executed under controlled conditions. Based on a defined set of quantifiable parameters, the most effective dsRNA molecules, treatments and formulations will be further evaluated in greenhouse experiments. The candidate will employ a wide range of molecular tools, including formulations, microscopy and gene cloning, to investigate RNAi against the insect pest.

  • The candidate should have a Master's degree in biology, entomology, molecular biology or a related field.
  • The candidate should be comfortable working with plant sap sucking insects
  • Hands-on expertise in working with RNAi against sucking insect pest is an advantage
  • The candidate should be ready to start in the beginning of January 2023

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 18 months (starting January 2023).
