Scientific Assistant in the Biomedical Data Science Lab 60%-100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Biomedical Data Science Lab (BMDS), headed by Prof. Catherine Jutzeler, is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Scientific Assistant to join our interdisciplinary team. In this role, the scientific assistant will work closely with the BMDS team of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers to support ongoing projects and contribute to new research initiatives.

We particularly value individuals who are used to and comfortable addressing cutting-edge research questions where they must be creative and motivated in searching for relevant source materials.

Job description

Your responsibilities will include assisting in the collection, management, and analysis of large biomedical datasets. You will work with our team to collect and manage data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity. You will also assist with data analysis, using statistical and machine-learning techniques to extract meaningful insights and patterns from the data. Moreover, you will work closely with other members of our team to support ongoing projects. Lastly, you will participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and other collaborative activities.

Your profile

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering, biology, bioinformatics, data science, computational biology, or related field)

Strong computational skills, preferably in Python

Experience working with large datasets and data processing tools

Familiarity with statistical analysis methods

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Good knowledge (written/oral) of English

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Highly organized with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with machine learning algorithms and software (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)

Familiarity with biomedical data and research

Experience with database management systems (e.g., SQL)
