The Science Education Program at San José State University invites
applications for a part-time lecturer position as a university supervisor to
support preservice science teacher development. The Science Education Program
is well positioned to meet the increasing demand for well-qualified and
prepared science teachers in our community.
The program is led by an interdisciplinary team of dedicated teacher-scholars
recognized for their commitment to the preparation and ongoing support of
justice-centered, socially responsive secondary science teachers. Our faculty
work on the transformation of undergraduate science courses and student
learning experiences, and they engage in innovative science education research
uniting the College of Science with the Lurie College of Education. Science
Education offers a Master of Science degree in Science Education that can be

have 5 or more years of teaching experience. Applicants must be knowledgeable
of the Next Generation Science Standards and active-based teaching practices.

Supervisors support preservice teacher development primarily through
observation, debriefs, formative and summative assessments and seminars. They
play a critical role in coaching and evaluating teacher candidates, supporting
mentor teachers in the field, and providing feedback to the Science Education
Program and the Teacher Education Department. The work settings include middle
and high school sites in the Bay area, online/hybrid settings and SJSU. The
successful candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding
the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural
background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through
inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
Technology is an integral part of supervision at SJSU. Here is a brief list of
the kinds of technology use that is typical in a given semester: Zoom video
conferencing, the Google suite of applications (e.g. docs, slides), Canvas
Learning Management System, video and integrated annotation and feedback
