We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as an Assistant Professor of Music Education beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary and choral music education and courses in other areas according to the candidate's qualifications and as assigned by the department chair. Supervise student teachers and develop and maintain positive, collaborative relations with area music educators. Possibility of establishing and conducting children's choir and/or Kodaly/Orff levels program as appropriate to candidate's qualifications and interests. Demonstrate commitment to university service. Develop and maintain a strong research presence in the music education field. Establish and maintain active recruitment and interactions with the music education community throughout the state and nationally.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. Though the position is based in Brownsville TX, it may require physical presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate in music education (ABD considered, with all requirements completed by August 2022.).

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Three years elementary, middle, or high school choral music or general music teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in teaching elementary/general music education and background in choral music. Specializations or research interests in two or more of the following areas: children's choirs, assessment, diversity, decolonized music education, differentiation and exceptional learners, technology for music education, vernacular/popular music, mariachi and/or Latin American music, social justice, creativity, community music. Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, and/or Gordon MLT experience or certification(s), a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities. Emerging or established national research profile in peer-reviewed conferences and/or publications. Candidates from marginalized groups and bilingual English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
