    Admission Requirements: Graduates in Geography or related fields, who are enrolled in a master's program of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning may apply to this call.

    The candidate must:

  • Have a degree in Geography or related fields;

  • Be enrolled in the Master's program at IGOT-ULisboa;

  • Have good knowledge of Geographic Information Systems,

  • Preferably, although not mandatory, with knowledge of Python and/or R programming;

  • Have good knowledge of Portuguese and English.

  • Eligibility of candidates

    Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions provided for in article 9 of the FCT IP Research Grant Regulation (Regulation No. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 241 on December 16th, 2021).

    Project Summary:

    The region of implementation of Local Plans for Adaptation to Changes Climate (PLAAC-Arrábida), which encompasses the municipalities of Palmela, Sesimbra and Setúbal, is extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change (CA) due to its biophysical and socioeconomic characteristics. The PLAAC-Arrábida will represent fundamental instruments that will prepare the community to face these problems through current and future adaptation, implementing European, national and regional strategies. These instruments will create conditions for adaptation at the municipal scale, framing local and inter-municipal planning, reducing climate risk, reducing eventual impacts and promoting adaptation.

    Work objectives:

    The work plan of the scholarship holder to be hired is as follows:

  • Collaborate with the project team in the analysis of hazards, vulnerabilities and current and future climate risks, particularly those associated with floods, mass movements on slopes, erosion and coastal overtopping and fires rural/forest;

  • Participate in training meetings held under the project;

  • Participate in the writing of at least one scientific article with the results of the work, to be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal;

  • Previous tasks will be framed, in whole or in part, in a dissertation Master's degree to be completed during the academic year 2021/2022.

    Workplace

    The work will be developed at the Center for Geographical Studies of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, under supervision scientific to designate.

    Duration: 6 months. The scholarship contract may eventually be renewed.

    Start date: scheduled to start in November 15th 2021, on an exclusive basis.

    Monthly salary: 835,98€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ).

    Selection criteria:

    Curriculum evaluation (CE) comprises the following parameters:

  • Curriculum Vitae (40%);

  • Graduation classification (30%);

  • Skills working in Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS and/or OpenSource), knowledge of programming in Python and/or R and application of models for assessing the susceptibility of enhanced hazardous processes for climate change (20%);

  • Level of fluency and rigor in written expression, in Portuguese and English, that can be assessed on the basis of certification documents (10%).

  • The jury may, if it deems it necessary, call the candidates placed in the first 3 positions for an interview. In this case, the interview has a weight of 30%, added to the score obtained in the first selection phase, which will have a weight of 70%. The interview will take place at a date and time to be communicated to the candidates in due course.

    The jury may not award any scholarship if the candidates do not correspond to the desired profile.

    Jury

    The selection panel for the applications for this scholarship is composed of the following elements:

    President of the Jury: Professor Doctor José Luís Zêzere, Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

    1st Effective Member: Professor Doctor Eusébio Reis, Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

    2nd Effective Member: Professor Susana Pereira, Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

    Substitute members: Professor Dr. Sérgio Oliveira and Dr. Pedro Pinto Santos, of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon.

    Results

    The final results of the evaluation will be communicated to the candidates through notification sent to the email address indicated for this purpose.

    If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to comment, if desired, in a prior hearing to the interested parties, pursuant to articles 121 and 122 of the Code of Administrative Procedure (DL nº 4/2015 of January 7th).

    The selected candidate must state in writing their intention to accept the scholarship. In case of non-acceptance, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate in order of final ranking.
