Summary

The Risk Manager will provide onsite Risk Management support for Midwestern University's academic campus and its various clinics and will support various clinical initiatives. This individual will be responsible for the planning, development, management and administration of all aspects of Risk Management for Downers Grove location, reporting directly to the Sr. Vice President, Administration & Communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Risk Management and compliance issues for the Downers Grove campus and all Clinics.
  • Collaborate with the clinics, colleges, and support departments in the identification and resolution of potential risks related to systems, processes, and clinical issues.
  • Manage and administer the university's workers' compensation program including interacting with claimant, preparation of claim, notification to carrier, coordination of benefits with human resources, and claim conclusion.
  • Develop and manage the Risk Management operational budget and assist with the departmental strategic plan.
  • Review and analyze all occurrence/incident reports (both student and employee), develop resolution plan, perform appropriate reporting, conduct necessary investigations, and submit all approved invoices for payment.
  • Assist with the identification and development of solutions to clinical risk management issues in the areas of HIPAA, OSHA,Workers Compensation, and licensing/credentialing.
  • Proactively identify areas of high risk and develop risk reduction strategies in collaboration with University leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies/procedures and educational training programs in the areas of risk exposure, loss prevention, risk management compliance, environmental health and safety, HIPAA, CPR/ BLS, and universal precautions.
  • Conduct all Clinic Environmental Rounds on a monthly basis.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments and proper follow up with all employees.
  • Manage and submit all certificates of insurance as requested by departments.
  • Collaborate with all insurance carriers to the extent of campus walk- throughs, claim filing and discover preventative actions.
  • Assist with all State, OSHA, and Accreditation visits.
  • Support the Office of General Counsel on subpoenas, Workers' Compensation, and other risk management issues.
  • Respond to questions from faculty, staff and administration relating to risk management.
  • Participate on University committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor's degree required with a preferred area of study in Healthcare, Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance or related field. Healthcare risk management and/or compliance experience preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience at a manager level or above is required, preferably in healthcare or higher education. Exceptional knowledge in the areas of Risk Management, compliance, and workers' compensation. Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving skills and risk judgment.

    Computer Skills

    Strong computer literacy necessary, with proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
