We are looking for an enthusiastic and diligent professional to join our Data Compliance team within Strategic Planning & Change. Ready to support the fulfilment of the University's external reporting requirements by significantly contributing to our preparation of high-quality and timely data returns to sector agencies, including HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency), OfS (Office for Students), HEE (Health Education England) and the NHS.

Possessing experience in data management and a strong problem solving and analytical mindset you will be keen to develop these skills, alongside providing guidance and support to owners and users of data across the institution.

This is an exciting time to join Data Compliance as we continue preparations for the new Higher Education data landscape (HESA Data Futures) and prepare to consider and implement a new Student Record System.

    Job Purpose:

    To support the development and maintenance of high-quality external data returns and surveys, promoting good practice in the management of internal systems data, and support their creation and timely submission. This role has its focus aimed at the statutory data requirements of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), Office for Students (OfS), the National Health Service (NHS) and Health Education England (HEE).

    Working with the Senior Returns Officer to undertake the operational activities associated with fulfilment of all external student data reporting requirements and, as a result, supporting the work of the Data Compliance Manager to curate the university's student data and implement process change in response to the demands of the HE regulatory landscape, including HESA Data Futures.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • Support the production and submission of high-quality external returns made to HE statutory bodies such as HESA, OfS, NHS, and HEE.
  • Manage aspects of the relevant NHS contracts, supporting full adherence to contract monitoring, reporting requirements in liaison with colleagues from the appropriate academic schools and external NHS/HEE stakeholders.
  • Evaluate data management, quality and returns processes that support a range of external returns, working with relevant teams across the University to improve accuracy or outcomes.
  • Undertake data capability activities relating to external returns to improve understanding and use of data across the team and wider University.
  • Support colleagues in the review of data management processes to develop staff and provide operational reporting, e.g. Placements Team, members of the Academic Registry.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of the use of student data by the University and its record system, supporting the implementation of initiatives aimed at the continuous improvement of student data quality and integrity.
  • To actively develop and maintain a thorough understanding of changes to HE sector requirements and their impact on statutory data collection.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
