Job Summary Coordinates all aspects of maintaining Gulf Coast Library's collections. Works closely with the Collection Supervisor on all collection management activities, including preparing new materials for integration into the Gulf Coast Library's collections, sorting and evaluation of donated materials and the withdrawal of materials from the collections as needed. May supervise student employees assigned to work in resource management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Collection Supervisor with routine collection management activities. These include, but are not limited to, organizing newly cataloged item for final processing, organizing and assisting with the evaluation of donated materials, conducting minor repairs on books and media, preservation projects and assisting with troubleshooting problems with materials in the collections (such as identifying problems with barcodes, spine labels, and other problems and retrieving materials that require item or system record repair)
  • Performs first-tier troubleshooting of electronic resources access problems with excellent customer service; Recreates issue and traces to failure point; Uses error messaging and end-user feedback to determine the source of the problem; Collaborates with team members and vendors to restore access, referring complex issues to the Electronic Resources Librarian or others as appropriate.
  • Assists with maintenance of the Gulf Park College for Women archives. Helps the processing of donated items for the collection and the preservation of the existing collection.
  • Assists the Collection Supervisor in formulating, interpreting, and communicating collections policies and procedures to library staff and patrons.
  • Responsible for shelf-reading of the entire collection on a regular basis, a minimum of twice yearly, and any physical shifting of the collection as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited college; or six months to one year related library experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven ability to use the automated library program
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to use complex databases, spreadsheets and other software to produce necessary reports
  • Ability to help students and faculty with difficult research topics
  • Ability to perform independently
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to operate and assist patrons with copiers and printers.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in library and information science or related field from an accredited college or university; two years working in an academic library.
