Position Summary

Live-in employees who promote and enhance a supportive community environment in their residence area which is conducive to academic achievement and personal growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises 10 paraprofessional staff members in the area and provides continuous direction, support, and feedback through regular one-on-one meetings.
  • Familiarizes self with the students in the O'Hara Hall & Village areas and shows concern for each resident's welfare. Counsels and refers students to appropriate campus services.
  • Serves as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and works to advance the College's mission of diversity and inclusion.
  • Coordinates the Honors, Science, and Summer Research Special Interest Housing communities in the area.
  • Supervises the programming efforts of Resident Assistants in his/her residence area and personally supports these programs.
  • Serve as a Summer Residence Director. Supervises the daily living of students residing on campus during the summer. Designs summer residential curriculum. Assists with summer room assignments, inspections, and transition between spring to summer and summer to fall. Supervises a summer RA staff, handles roommate conflicts, and establishes community expectations.
  • Assist with Residence Life orientation efforts. This includes but is not limited to, preparation, coordination, and supervision of the residence halls to be used, development & facilitation of the presentation to first- year students, and assistance with Student Engagement orientation programs.
  • Manages the Community Associate program in the area.
  • Advises the individual area Hall Council.
  • Collaborates with Campus Ministry to support opportunities for faith development in the residence halls.
  • Interprets and enforces college policies and participates in a formal professional staff on-call rotation.
  • Facilitates conduct meetings under the direction of the Community Standards office.
  • Oversees the physical maintenance of the residence area and communicates maintenance needs to Facilities Management.
  • Responsible for the opening and closing of the residence halls at the start and end of each break.
  • Assists with Head Resident Assistant and Resident Assistant recruitment, selection, and training programs.
  • Attends and participates in professional staff training & development. Assists with the facilitation and implementation as requested.
  • Assists with the communication, implementation, and management of the Housing Selection and assignment process.
  • Participates as a member of the College community in events and activities including Skyhawk Welcome Days, Student Activities Programs, Convocation, Commencement Weekend, and Athletic games.
  • Enhances communication between the Residence Life department and other campus offices through regular interaction and formal interdepartmental meetings.
  • Participates in Residence Life weekly department meetings and individual supervisory meetings with the Director/Assistant Director of Residence Life.
  • Assists with the long-range planning of the Residence Life Office.
  • Perform additional assignments and serve on campus-wide committees as determined by the Director.
  • Additional duties as assigned and discussed with the supervisor.
  • Education and/or Experience

    Preferred qualifications: Master's degree and the ability to transfer theory into practice. Previous experience within a residence hall setting. Crisis management, supervisory, community development, and programming experience are also a preference.

    Required qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations and the capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse academic community required. A proven commitment to embracing and advancing diversity and inclusion in all aspects of campus life. Understanding of the College's Catholic mission and an appreciation for how Catholic traditions and values enhance the student experience. Must also have excellent time management and organizational skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field preferred. Experience with themed housing or living-learning communities preferred.
