    DWARC: Dealing with a resurgent China

    Description:

    DWARC (Dealing with a resurgent China) is a 3-year research project implemented by 9 renowned think tanks and universities located in seven EU member states, under the Horizon Europe program. As part of DWARC, SWPS University is responsible for research in the field of culture, included in WP2 - Society and culture. The main aim of the research of Chinese cultural sector and most recent cultural works in literature, theatre, film and visual arts is estimating the extent of discrepancy between the official discourse and voices of the artists, as well as describing important social themes and tropes which might not find their way to the official discourse.

    Responsibilities:

  • Active participation in data collection – Chinese cultural productions
  • Analysis and interpretation of collected data – discourse/theme and trope analysis of cultural productions
  • Participation in preparation dissemination reports for Work Package “Society and culture”, including academic papers, and policy briefs
  • Participation in production of webinars and podcasts, and well as social media actions popularising research findings
  • Participation in WP2 and consortium meetings when required: in person and online

  • Employment contract of 0.5 time for a period of 18 months;
  • Monthly salary in the amount of PLN 3800-4200 gross (not including employer's social contributions);

  • Eligibility criteria

    Formal criteria:

  • Scientific achievements: publications devoted to China in the cultural and social aspect in high-rated scientific periodicals and in book publications; participation in research devoted to China; participation in important international scientific conferences - 40% of the final grade
  • Scientific and expert competences - Fluent command of the Chinese language in speech and writing at the C2 level; Good orientation in the cultural and social issues of contemporary China; High competences in one of the areas of knowledge about contemporary China: film, visual arts, performing arts - 40% of the final grade
  • Competences to carry out specific tasks in a research project: preparation to assist in conducting research in the field of social sciences and humanities, the ability to develop research results and write reports, documented expert experience - 20% of the final grade

    Offer Requirements Skills/Qualifications

    Requirements:

  • PhD obtained at a Polish or foreign university in the field of: literary studies, cultural studies, art history, film studies, sinology, Asian or related studies
  • High-level expertise in one of the following fields of knowledge about modern China: film, visual arts, scenic arts
  • Fluency in Modern Standard Chinese (Putonghua) at C2 level
  • Fluency in English (at least C1 level)
  • Expertise in cultural and social aspects of modern China

  • Experience in conducting research projects
