Researcher (m/f/d) Leibniz-Zentrum für Marine Tropenforschung GmbH (ZMT), Bremen

The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research ( ZMT ) in Bremen is a member of the Leibniz Association, which is supported by the German Federal and State Governments. Through its research, ZMT contributes to developing strategies for sustainable use of tropical coastal systems.

The working group Submarine Groundwater Discharge is looking for a

Researcher (m/f/d)

(Reference number: 208-COASTGUARD )

to contribute to the project “Global coastal groundwater dynamics in a changing climate (COASTGUARD) that the group jointly carries out with the University of Potsdam. ZMT's contribution to the project is to analyze scale effects on permeability and groundwater flow at the coast. A main task will be the development of a global dataset on coastal permeability. The researcher will develop the dataset, contribute to analyzing coastal groundwater flow, publish the results and exchange information with the project partners. The position will be embedded in the working group “Submarine Groundwater discharge” at ZMT, which offers a diverse research environment ranging from local scale field analyses to global scale modeling approaches.

Requirements:

  • strong skills in geodata collection and analysis
  • background knowledge of controlling factors on permeability and coastal groundwater flow
  • experience in application of GIS software
  • a PhD degree in the general field of coastal hydrogeology is beneficial but not required
  • excellent English writing skills and proven inclination to scientific publishing
  • a strong interest to work independently in an interdisciplinary and solution-oriented environment
  • curiosity, creativity and intrinsic motivation for the research topic

  • The position should be filled from January 15th 2022. The contract will limited to 12 months. Salary will be paid according to the German TV-L EG 13 (100%).
