Position Summary

The Researcher IV will conduct preclinical cellular and molecular neuroscience and cancer research. This research aims to understand the causes and developing new treatments for mental illness, addiction, neuronal injury, and neuroendocrine cancer.

The person awarded this position will conduct experiments using both in vitro and in vivo model systems. Studies will also encompass analysis of patient derived samples.

Effort will be directed at assessments of the efficacy of new treatments and the application of multidisciplinary techniques including:

  • pharmacology, biochemistry, cell biology, animal behavior, histology, physiology, and in vivo imaging.

    General Responsibilities

    Working with a high degree of independence:

  • To oversee projects within the laboratory
  • To assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.
  • To collect, enter, summarize, analyze, and interpret data.
  • To contribute significantly to the planning/design of studies.
  • To help develop long or short-term goals.
  • Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees projects within the laboratory and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities.
  • Conducts biomedical research using rodents.
  • Contributes significantly to and coordinates the planning/design of studies.
  • Collects, enters, summarizes, analyzes, and interprets data from deriving figures and patient derived samples.
  • Monitors results, detects, and reports unusual outcomes, develops modifications, and provides data to management.
  • Participates and helps develop long or short-term goals or strategic business objectives.
  • With direction, contributes to grant proposals and assists in the preparation and editing of grant applications and scientific publications.
  • Supervises lab equipment and supplies.
  • Uses advanced knowledge of lab practices to direct and teach others.
  • Interacts with other scientists and resource providers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Salary

    $ 47,486.40 - $ 85,000.00 annually

    Qualifications

    Requirements

  • Doctorate in a related field
  • OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience
  • OR Associate's degree in related field and six (6) years of related experience
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

    The successful candidate will:

  • Work with a strong team of basic researchers and physicians study mechanisms that control cellular function and disease progression in cells as well as in vivo models.
  • Be expected to contribute intellectually to this research, derive and present data, and contribute to scientific publications of high impact.
  • Integrate with all members of an outstanding neuroscience and cancer research lab and contribute to its successful operation.
  • Be given the opportunity to work on an independent project that may be developed into a first author publication.
