  • Organisation/Company: CNRS
  • Research Field: Biological sciences Computer science Mathematics
  • Researcher Profile: First Stage Researcher (R1)
  • Application Deadline: 28/09/2022 23:59 - Europe/Brussels
  • Location: France › MONTPELLIER
  • Type Of Contract: Temporary
  • Job Status: Full-time
  • Hours Per Week: 35
  • Offer Starting Date: 01/11/2022
  • - database management - statistical analysis, model selection - mathematical modelling of population phenomena - development of statistical pipelines with graphical interface - report writing - interaction with local and national public health actors

The researcher will participate in the work of the ETE team in quantitative epidemiology and modelling of the COVID-19 pandemic, in the framework of the project 'Spatial and Situational Patterns for the Epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2' (PaSSES). The two core tasks of this project are the analysis of complementary data sources (social networks, wastewater, cluster descriptions) to SARS-CoV-2 detection and the integration of spatial heterogeneity in the parameterisation of mean-field models. The ideal candidate will have a very strong background in mathematics and statistics and excellent algorithmic and programming skills in R. He/she will be able to design original data analysis strategies independently, in the dynamic scientific context of mathematical and field epidemiology and public health.

The MIVEGEC laboratory in Montpellier is at the forefront of research on the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases with multidisciplinary approaches. Within the laboratory, the Theoretical and Experimental Evolution team is the one that develops the most approaches involving mathematical and statistical modelling of the epidemiology and evolution of infectious diseases. It includes two CNRS research directors, an Associate professor, an IRD researcher, and a research engineer. This work is part of the COVID-19 pandemic and is financed by the CNRS National Institute for Mathematical Sciences and their Interactions (INSMI), following a call for projects organised by the MODCOV19 platform (2022). Since March 2020, the ETE team has produced numerous analyses and reports available at https:// covid- The researcher will be under the direct supervision of Mircea Sofonea but will interact directly with the other members of the team, both permanent and temporary. Weekly meetings are organised.

    Eligibility criteria

    - advanced knowledge in descriptive and inferential statistics (GLMM, time series, spatial processes) - advanced programming skills in high level languages (scripts and applications will be developed in R) applications should be developed in R) - ability to critically analyse epidemiological models and develop new ones - good basic knowledge of algorithms - basic user interface skills - fluency in English (written, read, spoken)
