RESEARCHER III - (T204856)
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Researcher III to
independently manage breeding and non-breeding mouse colonies, inducing and
monitoring the expression of conditionally modulated and/or tissue-specific
transgenes, as well as performing survival and non-survival surgeries,
administering experimental compounds in vivo, and obtaining longitudinal and
terminal tissue/fluid samples for analysis. The position will require the
ability to perform, or effectively learn how to perform bone marrow
transplantation in mice. An ability to catheterize vessels and reproducibly
perform injury models is preferred (examples include but are not limited to:
ischemia-reperfusion injury, cecal ligation/puncture, chronic kidney disease
models, etc.). Duties will include independently managing the animal colony
and breeding animals.
To independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support
of lab goals.
To collect, enter, summarize, and analyze data.
To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest
To develop and improve techniques for the lab.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Administers experimental compounds by different means into experimental animals (iv, oral gavage, ip, sq, osmotic mini-pump implantation).
Obtains both non-terminal (urine, blood, feces, etc.) and terminal samples (fluids, tissues) for analysis.
Catheterize vessels for perfusion or drug administration.
Performs bone marrow transplants in mice including X-ray irradiation of recipient mice, collecting bone marrow-derived precursors from donor mice, injecting bone marrow precursors intravenously into myeloablated recipient mice and monitoring tissue engraftment/recovery of the animals.
Performs surgical models of chronic or acute tissue injury.
Manages the animal colony, including maintenance breeding, and crossing animals for the generation of conditional and tissue-specific transgenics. The animal colony is expected to consist mainly of mice but rats might be incorporated in the future.
Performs basic biochemical, histological, and molecular assays.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Range $35,570.00 - $59,800.00 Annually
