September 26, 2022

Description

We announce a position as researcher in experimental subatomic physics at Chalmers University of Technology focusing on the maintenance and development of Data Acquisition Systems (DAQ ). You will be working on data taking in radioactive beam experiments, aiming at understanding the structure and reactions of unstable nuclei and the role of fission in the creation of heavy elements in neutron-star mergers.

Experimental subatomic physics at Chalmers has a long and successful scientific record, investigating light neutron-rich nuclei, as well as the evolution of nuclear structure at large international accelerator laboratories, such as GSI/FAIR and CERN/ISOLDE. The successful candidate would work on a project at HIE-ISOLDE within the ISS collaboration.

Major responsibilities The position focuses on the following tasks: - Development of DAQ and the maintenance of a readout library. - Remote support for the operation of DAQ systems. - Integration of new detector systems with their corresponding read-out electronics into existing DAQ systems. - Preparation and performing of experiments. - Software support for simulations and data analysis. - Testing of prototypes of new electronic modules for future experiments. - Development of slow-control systems. - Knowledge transfer to the entire group/collaboration.

Contract terms Full-time temporary employment for two years.

Qualifications A strong background with modern large-scale subatomic physics experiments is needed, moreover the following qualifications are required: - Doctoral degree in a relevant field. - Programming skills, mandatory is a strong background in C, C++ and scripting. - Knowledge on hardware, especially electronics, used in modern subatomic physics experiments, as well as experience in operating systems. - Creativity and problem-solving skills. - The ability to work independently. - The ability to debug soft- and hardware problems, also remotely. - Experience with event synchronization schemes. - Experience with data unpacking and data analysis. - Communication skills.
