  • Position Summary

    The Baccarelli lab at the Mailman School of Public Health is seeking a Research Worker to manage wet lab operations and conduct experimental procedures as part of an interdisciplinary team of environmental epidemiologists, environmental health scientists, and wet lab epigeneticists/molecular biologists. The laboratory conducts large scale environmental and epidemiology studies to investigate environmental programming and mechanisms of human disease. Ongoing laboratory research activities are focused on DNA methylation, microRNAs, extracellular vesicles, the microbiome, and environmental mitochondriomics. The successful candidate will work with the lab leadership to oversee all lab projects. The incumbent can expect to spend coordinate and managing lab operations 20% and 80% of time planning and performing wet lab work.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with the lab leadership to strategize project timelines and costs (5%)

    • Manage the use of equipment and facilities as well as lab safety compliance documentation (5%)

    • Manage samples and freezer inventories for all biological samples stored in the lab (5%)

    • Develop and optimize standard operating procedures for new lab assays, and demonstrate these procedures to students and other research personnel (30%)

    • Carry out sample processing and analytical assays (45%)

    • Maintain datasets produced by the lab (DNA methylation data, mitochondrial DNA data, sequencing data, etc.) (5%)

    • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested (5%)

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree and at least 1 year of experience, or Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Molecular biology experience is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
