    • Position Summary

    The Division of General Medicine seeks a full-time Research Worker to support several NIH funded studies relating to Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). For further information, see https: // www. mesa-nhlbi.org/.

    The Research Worker will have the opportunity to interact with MESA participants and recruit study participants for specific MESA ancillary studies. The candidate will gain valuable research interviewing experience by directly engaging and interacting with participants.

    Responsibilities

  • Responsible for contact and retention of study participants in the MESA cohort.
  • Schedule visits for follow-up examinations for study participants.
  • Conduct telephone interviews using structured questionnaires in follow-up phone calls.
  • Track returned questionnaires and letters from participants.
  • Check completeness of data in questionnaires.
  • Organize and maintain records related to interviews, exams, schedules, and other related MESA activities.
  • Meet and escort participants at exams and to exam locations.
  • Obtain consent, conduct anthropometry measures and interviews, obtain blood pressure and anthropometry data in interviews and exams.
  • Prepare reports and maintain research records.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

    • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related area and at least three years of related experience or Master's degree and at least one year of experience
  • Fluency and English and Spanish (speaking and reading)
  • Prior clinical research experience and specifically prior research interview experience
  • Must be detail-oriented, reliable, responsible, and have strong interpersonal and telephone skills
  • Possess the initiative to take responsibility for recruitment, retention, and follow-up of the MESA cohort
  • Computer skills including familiarity with word processing software and spreadsheets

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

    • Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
  • Participation in the medical surveillance program.
  • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
  • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
