Position Summary

This Advanced Research Technician position in area of a translational research is necessary to provide essential support for the ongoing experimental processes in the laboratory. Work requires advanced knowledge of applicable laboratory procedures, tests, techniques and terminology. The position will provide support in mouse survival surgeries, performing experimental procedures on mice, data analysis, and data entry. The position will provide technical troubleshooting and optimization in immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization. This position will also help provide training to new laboratory personnel in immunohistochemistry and animal handling techniques.

This position is within the Global Health and Infectious Disease Department.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Relevant and recent animal laboratory work experience and skills in animal research techniques. Experience in immunohistochemistry. Recent experience working with pathogens and infected samples under BSL2 containment or higher. Must be able to analyze data digitally and manually while able to clearly communicate information both verbally and in written form. Must be able to learn multiple computer software platforms.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field with 2 years of experience. Specific skills in mouse research techniques including IP injections, administering injectable anesthesia, biological fluid/tissue collection. Knowledge of immunohistochemistry, tissue culture, or flow cytometry techniques are desired.

Required Licenses/Certifications Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Must be able to care for animal specimens, prepare analyses and perform surgical procedures. Constantly positions self to maintain and process specimen using approved techniques on living animals. Ability to lift and/or move supplies and research samples with or without reasonable accommodations.
