Position Summary

The Shpargel Laboratory within the UNC Genetics Department is seeking a Research Technician with a background in molecular biology. The focus of this study involves utilizing genetic, molecular, and biochemical applications to study the mechanisms by which mutation of histone modifying enzymes regulate craniofacial development.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Candidate should possess laboratory technical experiences which includes the following: mammalian cell culture, PCR, genotyping, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and tissue histology.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

The project will analyze molecular mechanisms of craniofacial development in mice carrying mutations in histone modifying enzymes. Experience in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, mouse developmental biology, and mouse husbandry is preferred. This project will collect mutant cell culture or dissected mouse tissues of interest, perform genotyping, and prepare samples for downstream next generation sequencing to analyze gene expression (RNA- seq) or histone profiles (ChIP-seq). The project will utilize a variety of genetic CRISPR approaches to mutate and assay gene function in cell culture.
