Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Position Summary

We are seeking a research assistant to support the tissue engineering research objectives of our laboratory involving the use of fluid flow to pattern cells and tissues. This position will involve the design and fabrication of systems that can apply precise, predictable flow to cells and the observation of cellular responses. Specific work will involve interfacing with UNC machine shops, BEAM, and outside contract manufacturer to build and characterize flow systems. Other responsibilities include computational fluid dynamics to validate experimental results.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

The position requires a basic understanding of fluid mechanics and a desire to integrate engineering and computational modeling with cell biology. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is necessary unless the candidate has appropriate laboratory skills with a different degree or major preferred. Candidates should have some prior experience with computational fluid dynamics and/or mechanical system design and fabrication.
