The UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) is an internationally recognized center conducting innovative basic and translational science to establish how individual differences in nutrient requirements and responses to diet affect our nutritional needs. Our research contributes to the prevention and mitigation of chronic disease across the lifespan from periconception through aging.

Our Mission is to lead precision nutrition research through understanding how genetics and environment affect an individual's requirements for and responses to nutrients.

NRI principal investigators hold faculty appointments in the departments of Nutrition and Psychology at UNC Chapel Hill. Their research interrogates nutrient roles in disease prevention, disease risk factors, and the impact of gene-environment and gene-nutrient interactions.

The NRI and this position are in Kannapolis, NC, in the Charlotte region.

Position Summary

Laboratory team members perform research on precision nutrition utilizing animal models, with the goal of understanding how genes and diet interact to affect human health and disease. The responsibilities of the Research Technician include but are not limited to: standard molecular biology methods (PCR, western blot, plasmid isolation), cell culture (sterile technique, feeding and splitting), and mouse handling. This position will contribute to husbandry of our zebrafish facility including daily feeding, health checks, water chemistry, and room maintenance.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Selected candidate must demonstrate the following: Previous experience working in a laboratory Ability to work with rodents and zebrafish Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping Strong communication skills Ability to work onsite during holidays, weekends, and severe weather events, as this position performs essential duties daily

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience with PCR, immunochemistry, western blots, and/or cell culture Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field Previous experience working with rodents
