A full-time research technician position is available in the laboratory of Leena Ali Ibrahim at KAUST.

A major focus of the laboratory is understanding the circuit mechanisms of top-down circuit influence on sensory processing during development and learning. In addition we are interested in exploring how the balance of bottom-up and top-down signaling is disrupted in neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders. We use a variety of approaches including in vivo two-photon microscopy and behavior, slice physiology, optogenetics and viral targeting of defined cell types in mouse brain and histology.

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic team member to join a multidisciplinary research laboratory. The ideal applicant will have had considerable undergraduate or technical experience in a neuroscience laboratory.

Typical Duties Include:

  • Mouse husbandry and genotyping
  • Stereotaxic surgeries
  • Brain sample preparation and sectioning
  • Confocal and other fluorescence imaging and subsequent data processing
  • Interacting and working with other lab members
  • In addition, a number of basic laboratory duties will be performed, such as solution preparation and maintaining experimental schedules. During some periods, a moderate amount of computer work will be required to process data and reconstruct cells in datasets.

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related neuroscience or biology discipline. Must have basic computer literacy skills, entry level knowledge of research methods and concepts, and good communication and teamwork skills. One year of experience in a research lab setting (relevant college coursework may count toward experience). High level of manual dexterity and attention to detail required. Prior experience with mouse husbandry techniques is preferred.

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Applications will be considered as they are received and the position will remain open until filled. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and will follow University guidelines.
