Job Description

The College of Agriculture & Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications from accomplished individuals to join a team of faculty/ research scientists/ in the area of poultry research and production management. The successful candidate for this position must have demonstrated successful hands on experience in poultry husbandry, slaughtering, processing, fabrication and packaging, layer management, egg handling, selection, grading, and storage. He/she will be expected to contribute to a very vigorous animal science program that supports the research, teaching and outreach programs in poultry science.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty and other scientists with all research projects conducted at the poultry unit.

  • Provide leadership in the day to day management and maintenance of the poultry unit.

  • Ensure that buildings and equipment are ready for conducting research.

  • Assist in data collection and analysis of poultry research.

  • Assist with teaching poultry science laboratory classes.

  • Coordinate and maintenance outdoor facilities and laboratory equipment and supplies for the poultry unit.

  • Keep records of all research and inventory of equipment at the poultry unit.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Three years of related experience.

  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal or Related Sciences

  • Some experience in laboratory procedures

  • Prior experience in conducting research

  • Ability to communicate orally and to be able to write manuscripts

  • Previous experience working with animals

  • Be able to statistically analyze research data

  • Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

  • Ability to exert heavy force.

  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
