Job Summary

The general purpose of this position is to work under the overall direction of the Budwood Program Manager, assisting the Research Technician II and Facilities Specialist II In the operation of the Texas Citrus Budwood Certification Program, as well as the Citrus Center commercial nursery stock program. The person in his position shall be able to learn and perform all functions of the Citrus Budwood Program and the Citrus Center commercial nursery stock program. Additionally, this person shall be able to assist In maintenance, repairs, equipment operation, construction, and any other necessary functions relating to the facility operations. This person shall maintain good working communication with other members of the Budwood Program team, and at all times provide excellent customer service to all business partners, associates, and customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

ASSISTING THE RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II WITH THE FOLLOWING DUTIES:

- Planting and growing high-quality rootstock seedlings for propagation. - Budding/grafting of citrus buds onto rootstocks. - Care and maintenance of budded trees including pruning, watering, fertigation, pesticide, and fungicide applications; transplanting into active Foundation and Increase budwood trees. - Maintenance and care of all Foundation, Increase, and commercial nursery stock trees Including pruning, fertigation, pesticide/fungicide application. - Cutting high-quality budwood from Foundation and Increase trees. - Collecting leaf samples for pathogen and fertility testing. - Adhering to all sanitation procedures listed In the procedures for propagating and budwood cutting. - Understand and follow all State and Federal regulations for certified citrus Foundation, Increase, and commercial nursery stock trees.

ASSISTING THE FACILITIES SPECIALIST II WITH THE FOLLOWING DUTIES:

- Ensuring that all screen houses meet all certification standards required by the Texas Department of Agriculture the United States Department of Agriculture. - Ensuring that all operating equipment In the screen houses Including fans, fertigation systems, and electrical equipment is In good operating condition. - Accompany TOA and USDA Inspectors on all monthly certification Inspections and Immediately address any issues or inspection violations noted by the Inspectors. - Maintain all equipment belonging to the department In good condition. - Assisting In various projects Including but not limited to: screen or roof replacements, modifications of existing facilities, construction, installations, fabrication, electrical and water projects. - Any other duties or tasks related to the general operation of the Budwood department.

Additional Responsibilities

- Attend and actively participate in training and any other development relating to the Texas Citrus Budwood Certification Program as required by supervisor - Perform any other related duties as required by supervisor - Adhere to all safety policies and regulations set forth by the TAMUK Citrus Center and Texas A&M Unlverslty­Klngsville. - Be willing and available to assist in duties In other areas/departments of the Citrus Center If requested by supervisor. - Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements: Education - High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience - Two years of related experience. Ability to - Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Physical Requirements - Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force.

Other Requirements: Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
