Position Summary

The Kosman lab is seeking a highly motivated individual with a background in molecular biology and biochemistry techniques and a strong willingness to learn new approaches in the validation of the cell biology of novel therapeutics directed towards the molecular bases of ataxias. Members of the Kosman lab work closely together to reveal the cell mechanisms that result in therapeutic efficacy of iron chelating, anti-oxidant molecules that are in clinical trial in the treatment of several neurodegenerative diseases that present with an ataxic phenotype.

The successful candidate will:

Work collaboratively with post-doctoral, doctoral and undergraduate trainees

Independently execute varied biochemical, and molecular and cell biologic procedures

Have strong verbal and written communication skills.

Process research results and write summary reports

Train and instruct new lab members on methods and procedures

Contribute to the maintenance of laboratory reagent stocks and equipment.

We're looking for someone who ideally comes with bench-top lab experience and previous involvement with the use of mammalian cell models of human disease.

The successful applicant is expected to support ongoing research studies on the bench, assist with lab maintenance duties, and take responsibility for basic research in a strongly collaborative environment. Minimum Qualifications

B.A. or B.S. in Biochemistry or related discipline and relevant research experience

Command of Microsoft Office applications with some experience in basic statistical analyses.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work in a collaborative environment

Ability to independently execute varied experimental procedures

Ability to process research data and write summary reports

Ability to train and instruct support staff on methods and procedures

Contribute to maintenance of laboratory reagents, stocks and equipment

Proficiency with some or all of the following techniques is preferred:

Mammalian cell culture

DNA and RNA isolation and enzymatic manipulation

qPCR

Western blot analysis

Mammalian transfection and viral infection

sh/iRNA techniques

Absorbance and fluorescence plate analyses of cell function

Use of radio-tracer analyses in transport studies

Physical Demands Salary Range $32,000 - $45,000 Work Hours

Monday – Friday

8:30 A.M-5:00 P.M
