John Radcliffe Hospital, Headley Way, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU
Contract type: Fixed term until 30 November 2024
Hours: Full-Time
About the role
We are looking for a Research Support Assistant to work in the Oxford Centre for Histopathology Research (OCHRe) in the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS), based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, with occasional travelling required to the Churchill Hospital and Old Road Campus sites.
In this role you will be providing a high quality, comprehensive and professional service to support the processing of histopathology research requests, with particular focus on Oxford Cancer projects.
This role is available immediately for a fixed term until 30 November 2024. This is to help with cover while a team member is on maternity leave.
About you
The post-holder will be responsible for sourcing and auditing NHS consent forms to check whether or not patient histology samples can be used in research. You will then need to ensure that approvals from custodians of samples are obtained before they are used in research, track and request histology samples and keep accurate records of histology samples from the time they are requested to the time they are returned to their long-term storage location.
For this, you will be required to develop strong working relationships with many different colleagues across the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University, in order to locate and access consent records and histology. You will also be required to enter and manipulate data in Excel and prepare histology slides for scanning. Attention to detail is crucial in performing these tasks.
Depending on workload, there may be other tasks assigned to you, however they will be commensurate with the grade. You will need to hold an NHS Honorary Contract which we will organise, to enable you to check patient records.
