Position Summary
The Research Specialist will be primarily responsible for the technical support in the Respiratory TRACTS Core affiliated with Marsico Lung Institute. Born from a collaboration between the Adams Schools of Dentistry and the School of Medicine, the focus of this core is on kickstarting translational research projects, aiding investigators in 1) generating data using a wide range of unbiased and targeted approaches and state-of-the-art technologies 2) collection, processing, and storage of biological samples along with dedicated technical personnel for assay performance and 3) study design, methodologic and data analysis consulting. The primary responsibilities for this position include phlebotomy, human sample collection, specimen receiving and/or retrieving, sorting, aliquoting, centrifugation, batching, database entry, shipping, and specimen storage. In addition, this position will be expected to perform several immunological and molecular biology assays when available, including real-time PCR, ELISA, and sample extractions. This position will report to the Associate Director of the Respiratory TRACTS Core.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Working knowledge of collecting and handling of human samples, molecular biology, and aseptic technique.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with molecular biology, ELISA, PCR, sample extraction (DNA/RNA/protein), and/or LDMS specimen storage database. Willingness to become trained in phlebotomy. At least one year of experience in a basic science laboratory.
