Do you want to contribute to improving human health?
The Peter Bergman research-group (the AMP-group) works with novel strategies
to boost innate immunity as a novel way to prevent or treat infections with
bacteria and viruses. The focus during recent years has been on understanding
the role of antimicrobial peptides in host immunity. The group works with a
wide range of methods and experimental models, including animal models and
patient-samples to address relevant research questions.
We are now seeking a Research Specialist to join our team.
We are looking for a highly experienced research specialist with excellent
knowledge of the methods and models used in the group. This includes previous
experience from work with isolation and characterization of antimicrobial
peptides using HPLC and mass-spectrometry. The applicant also needs excellent
technical skills from work with cell-lines and primary cells, with a focus on
human macrophages. Moreover, experience from handling patient-samples is
essential for the position. We also require documented training in advanced
confocal microscopy techniques. In addition, since we study a wide range of
microorganisms, the applicant needs thorough experience of work with virulent
mycobacteria (BSL3) as well as extensive experience from working with other
bacteria and viruses (BSL2). Finally, experience from supervising students
at different levels is a merit for the position.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding
a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the
applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented
research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.
Experience from HPLC, mass-spectrometry
Experience from animal work
Documented knowledge in the area of autophagy
Work with cell-lines and primary cells
Experience from patient-samples
Advanced confocal microscopy
Experience from BSL3 and BSL2 microbiological work
Experience from managing a laboratory, including ordering, chemical
inventory, biosafety issues
It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown
skills in experimental work (cell-work, microscopy, microbiology (BSL3
and BSL2 pathogens) and biochemistry (peptide-related methods).
It is meritorious that the applicant has shown
an independent line of research, attracting own grants as principal
supervision of students
experience from managing a laboratory
After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in
relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of
them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the
activities at KI.
