Research Software Engineer (f/m/d) for the Helmholtz Metadata Projects


As member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Center's focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter.

The Institut Information Services and Computing is the service, consultation and coordination centre for the Information Infrastructure of the Helmholtz- Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf.

Research Software Engineer (f/m/d) for the Helmholtz Metadata Projects


The position will be available from 01.09.2021. The employment contract is limited to 2 years.

  • Design and developing of our data management services and tools
  • Supporting our scientists in automating the complete life cycle of a scientific project with computational workflows and metadata gathering
  • Offering consultation and training for our scientists in the field of data management
  • Establishment of a research software workflow in a way that makes it findable, comprehensible, citable and reusable
  • Provisioning of tailored material to empower scientists of any domain to implement and to perpetuate modern scientific principles with all related data and software publications
  • Requirements:
  • Academic degree in higher education in Computer Science, Natural Sciences or Mathematics or any other related field with a strong connection to the topic
  • Profound knowledge of a programming language, preferrably Python and Python web frameworks
  • Solid experience in sustainable software engineering with modern tools (e. g. Git, CI/CD, container technologies, build tools)
  • Passion and enthusiasm for new topics around Software Engineering, sustainable software development, Open Source etc.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written
  • German is beneficial
  • The work in a Helmholtz-wide distributed, collaborative team requires you to be a motivated, open, initiative taking and creative team player
