The Research Scientist is to perform research in an interdisciplinary lab
interested in genetic and epigenetic regulation of transcription during
cellular activation. The uses human cell culture, high-throughput DNA
sequencing, CRISPR-Cas9, and bioinformatics to study the transcriptional
control in macrophages, microglia, and chondrocytes. One of the long term
goals is to use this data to understand the genetic basis of human diseases
including Alzheimer's' disease and osteoarthritis.
The ideal candidate will work in close collaboration with the PI and current
lab members to maintain and differentiate iPS cells, edit cell lines with
CRISPR-Cas9, and perform some lab management duties. The work will involve
many activities and techniques including human tissue culture, cellular
transfection and transduction, nucleic acid extraction, gel electrophoresis,
qPCR, and the preparation of libraries for genomic sequencing.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required; for candidates demonstrating
comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant
undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in
substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate should have at least 3 years of experience with human tissue
culture, CRISPR-based genome editing, nucleic acid extraction, and qPCR. They
should also have experience with data collection, data management, and data
analysis. Candidates must possess excellent organizational skills, strong
written and verbal communication skills, and capacity for working
independently and engaging in innovative problem-solving.
