Job Description:

Description of Duties: The Research Scientist will have primary responsibility for conceptualizing, designing, conducting and managing both large and small-scale studies to support a research agenda developed to increase knowledge of specific traffic safety issues, guide programmatic and policy decisions of the sponsor and assess the effectiveness of strategies for reducing motor vehicle crashes, fatalities and injuries on the state's highways. Responsibilities include all aspects of project management, including project planning and research design, identification of data sources, analysis and interpretation of data, report writing and coordination of the project team. This position is also responsible for preparing New York's annual Highway Safety Strategic Plan and Annual Report in accordance with federal requirements. This position also serves as liaison with local, state and national agencies and organizations in the field of traffic safety.

Requirements:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Position requires a master's degree in Public Administration, Public Health or related field and a minimum of 4 years of experience in conducting social science research, OR a doctorate degree in Public Administration, Public Health or related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience in conducting social science research.
  • Ability to independently manage and direct research projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience designing and conducting social science research studies, and evaluation projects
  • Strong statistical, technical and quantitative skills, proficiency in multiple data collection and analysis techniques, exceptional knowledge of statistical computer applications and experience working with large data sets
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills and experience in communicating findings and presenting data effectively in multiple formats
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to juggle multiple tasks when necessary, and ability to set objectives and goals with wide latitude
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in designing, conducting, and managing research studies, and evaluation projects
  • Familiarity with traffic safety or related public health issues
  • Experience with SAS statistical software
  • Experience leading collaborative workgroups and teams of public and private sector partners
  • Additional Information:

    Salary Range : $95,000 - $110,000
