    A call for tenders is now open for the attribution of one Research Scholarship within the scope of the project "GastroCure - Bioactive extracts of soy and cruciferous vegetables for application in gastrointestinal disorders: development, characterization and release" (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-032094 and PTDC/BAA-AGR/32094/2017) co-financed by Portugal 2020, within the scope of the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Programme, in its ERDF component and by the budget of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT,IP) in its OE component, under the following conditions, set out below.

    Scientific Area: Food Science

    Admission requirements: Applicants for the Research grant must, at the time of application, be enrolled or commit to enrolling in a course that does not confer an academic degree with the purpose of consolidating their scientific training. 1 At the time of application, candidates must also have completed a Master degree in Biotechnology, Food Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences and related scientific areas. It is essential that candidates have good command of the English language.

    As preference factors, we will consider previous research experience in the following domains:

  • microparticles production;
  • food product formulation;
  • chemical and microbiological control.
  • As well as demonstrated autonomy in conducting scientific research. Preferred factors will be experience in research projects and evidence from international scientific publications.

    Work Plan: The activity to be developed by the scholarship holder is part of a research project whose main objective is to incorporate previously developed bioactive compounds and nanoparticles in protein hydrogels, ensuring a formulation similar to yoghurt. The Research Fellow will participate in all project tasks, from the literature review to the collection and analysis of qualitative research data.The Research Fellow will participate in all project tasks, from literature review to research data collection and analysis and writing articles for peer-reviewed international journals.

  • Workplace: The work will be developed at the CBQF - Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Portugal, integrated into the School of Biotechnology, in Porto, under the scientific supervision of Professor Maria Manuela Estevez Pintado.

    Duration of the scholarship: The scholarship scheduled to start on 15-09-2021 will have an duration of 4 months on an exclusive basis.

    Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 1.104,64 according to the research scholarship values awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the Country (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt) and will be paid by bank transfer.

    Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

  • Curricular evaluation (40%);
  • Previous experience (60%);
  • The final decision, if necessary, may involve an interview with the 3 best- placed candidates, in which case the weighting will be curricular assessment (35%); ii) previous experience (50%) and selection interview (15%). Applications that do not meet the admission requirements, those submitted after the deadline, and those that are incomplete will be considered ineligible.

    Foreign candidates: Important notice for applicants with diplomas issued by foreign higher education institutions:

  • Applicants with diplomas issued by foreign higher education institutions may apply and will be evaluated with the same criteria as candidates with diplomas issued by Portuguese institutions, provided that they present, in the application, proof of the recognition of academic degrees and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale in accordance with the applicable legislation.
  • Applicants with foreign diplomas who do not present proof of the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale will be evaluated in the curriculum analysis with a minimum rating of 10 points, on a scale of 10 to 40 points.
  • In any case, scholarship contracts with candidates with diplomas issued by foreign institutions will only be concluded by submitting the proof of recognition of academic degrees and conversion of the final classification, as indicated above.

    Form of advertising/notification of results: The jury deliberates in accordance with the selection criteria adopted and disclosed. The jury meetings minutes will contain a summary of the meeting content. After completing the application of the selection criteria, the jury proceeds with the elaboration of the ordered list, with the ranking of the approved candidates. The ranking list of eligible candidates will be published on the premises of the Portuguese Catholic University, in Porto, located at Rua de Diogo Botelho, 1327, 4169-005 Porto - Portugal, with each candidate being notified of his/her position on the list ranking of candidates via email. In this email, candidate will be identified according to the reference used in the published ranking list. Ineligible applicants will be notified by email, with details of the missing eligibility elements.

    Complaint and appeal procedures: Candidates have a period of ten working days, after the disclosure referred to in the previous number, to give their opinion at a prior hearing.

    Deadline for acceptance of the scholarship: Within ten working days following notification of the grant award, the selected candidate must confirm in writing his/her availability to start the scholarship on the proposed date. Failing to do so or not having availability, the candidate placed in the next position will be called.

  • Cover letter, identifying the title and reference of the project, describe the motivation and professional objectives of the candidate;
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (should contain all the elements to assess the admission requirements, including language knowledge and research experience);
  • Copy of the certificate(s) of qualifications conferring academic degree in the terms requested in the notice, which contains the final classifications;
  • Record of recognition of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions and record of the conversion of the corresponding final classification to the Portuguese classification scale;
  • Proof of enrollment in a course that does not lead to an academic degree or a declaration of commitment to enroll in a course that does not lead to an academic degree under the terms referred to in the admission requirements.
  • Candidates present their candidacy under the terms mentioned in the previous point, from the day 07-22-2021 until the day 08-12-2021 (until 5 pm Lisbon time).

    Only applications received during the opening period of the above-mentioned call shall be considered.

    Candidates who incorrectly formalize their application or who do not prove the requirements of this call are excluded. False statements made by applicants will be punished under the law.

    Documentation to be provided for contracting

    The following documents must obligatorily be sent, when the grant is granted, for the purpose of contracting it:

    a) Copy of the civil and fiscal identification document(s);

    b) Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held;

    c) Presentation of the registration of recognition of foreign academic degrees;

    d) Document proving enrollment in the course that does not lead to an academic degree identified in this Notice;

    e) Declaration of the supervisor(s) assuming responsibility for supervising the work plan, pursuant to article 5-A of the Research Fellowship Statute;

    f) Updated document proving compliance with the exclusive dedication regime
