Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

We seek a highly motivated full-time research assistant to contribute to kinesiology, neuroscience and neural rehabilitation research in human motor control, skill learning, and recovery. The appointment will be for 1-year with the opportunity for renewal.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge of programming languages such as Matlab, Python, and ability of picking up various computer based applications and data analysis tools, troubleshooting hardware issues with sensors. Ability to function independently with a high degree of self-motivation. Interpersonal skills needed to interact with patients and healthy research participants. Excellent communication skills to coordinate within and outside the team.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

1. Programming, testing, and troubleshooting advanced devices for movement kinetics/kinematics assessment (30%)

The research assistant will work on developing and piloting therapy devices for human motor function rehabilitation. The duties may include but not limited to: prototyping, testing, and maintaining testing equipment for human upper extremity motor function assessment assembling hardware and troubleshooting electronic issues developing, implement, and testing the communication environment between hardware and software testing the functionality of the system

2. Assisting the design and implementation of behavioral and neurophysiology experiments on human dexterous movements (20%) participating design of human psychophysical experiments programming human-subject experiments with Python, Matlab, C++ maintaining and troubleshooting testing computers and workstations

3. Assisting data analysis and manuscript preparation (20%)

The research assistant will participate in an essential step in scientific research, manuscript preparation, which may include but not limited to data analyses using Matlab, Python, and other software and computational tools

4. Assisting preparation of IRB protocols and grant proposals (10%)

The research assistant will assist with drafting and maintaining IRB protocols, and working with UGA research administration for IRB-related issues.

The research assistant will also participate in the preparation of grant proposals, which may include but not limited to data analysis drafting research administration documents

5. Administrating neurological and behavioral assessments (10%) The research assistant will assist with standard neurological behavioral exams to assess patients' (e.g. stroke, Parkins's Disease, dystonia) motor and cognitive functions.

6. Assisting with other lab logistics (10%) This may include but not limited to building and maintaining lab wiki assisting equipment and lab supply purchasing
